Simplifying Conditional Formatting Techniques

With the use of Excel's strong conditional formatting tool, you may visually highlight data according to particular rules or conditions:

 

 Using conditional formatting might help you identify trends and patterns in your data.

Highlight Cells Rules:

Highlight cells rules are a type of conditional formatting used mainly in spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel.

 

There are some common types of Highlight cells rules

1. Greater Than:

 

 To choose a conditional format of the Greater Than type after selecting "conditional format," pick "Greater Than" as the first type under "Highlight Cells Rules."

This format is used to focus the cells with values above 2 that you have selected, and it allows you to highlight greater values that you have picked in the table, as shown in the table below.

And you can see that there are many different Highlight colors that you can also use to highlight Data (like: Light red fill with Dark red text etc…).

As seen in the figure below, you can also highlight your data using custom formatting.

 

2. Less Than:

 

To choose a conditional format of the Less Than type after selecting "conditional format," pick "Less Than" as the first type under "Highlight Cells Rules."

This format is used to focus the cells with values below 4 that you have selected, and it allows you to highlight less value that you have picked in the table, as shown in the table below.

3. Between:

 

Highlights cells with values within a specified range.

Marks between 1 and 5 as you can see below that highlight all the numbers between numbers 1 to 5.

 

4. Equal To

 

For Highlights cells that match a particular value, use the Equal To format.

According to the chart below, if you select a particular term, it will highlight the same word you type in the dialog box.

 

5. Text That contains:

 

Highlights the cells with particular text in them.

If you pick a particular term in the table below, it will highlight the text that is included within.

 

6. A Date Occurring


Cells with dates inside a certain range are highlighted.

You can see that there are other formats for dates, such as yesterday, today, and tomorrow, in the table below.

If you choose today, the current date will be highlighted.  The date of last week will be highlighted in the table format chosen below.

7. Duplicate Values

 

In duplicate Values format cells containing repeated values are highlighted which show in below table.
